On Sunday, our neighbor L wanted us to enjoy the movie Mariyadhai.” Yam pettra inbam, peruga ivvaiyagam” policy. I have no clue when it was released or anything about it for that matter. Now, about the movie, where shall I start….the purple shaded lips, the red& pink scarf on a blue shirt or the naughty gerl Meera Jasmine. The hero is none other than our akson king visayakanthan and that too , in a double role to boot. How to distinguish the appa and payyan?Daddy wears a wig parted in the side and son wears a wig parted in the middle. It can’t get any better, yes ? Amma is Ambika, a bad cook, who is the butt of all sokes in the movie and provides a breather every now and then. How can thalaivar go without two heroines, so we have Meena , in a negative role and Meera Jasmine ,in a thuru-thuru goody role ( which she is not good at, btw), who vows to make the hero like her after vittifying sawal to Meena for the same. Son loves Meena but decides Meera is good enough.
About the songs….I had anandha kaneer just watching our akson king in different colored shirts & scarfs, with matching lipstick and Meera Jasmine in a Mittai Pink Cindrella dress. The son becomes a recluse after dancing for a couple of songs with Meena, who cheats him for a 100 acre land…Seriously !! I mean, if you have 100 acre land in one hand and the Captain in another, who would you choose? I don’t blame Meena. Anyway, enters Meera, makes everyone happy including the son. The son gets a national award after creating greenhouse gardens in a couple of scenes later…Disappointing to see just only one akson scene …Here comes the moral of the movie…When the son is asked about his success in an interview, he replies, ” Ella creditum..goes to appa . Naan pona pokula enna vittu, 100 acre land..a tholachalum thatti koduthadunalathan I came up.” There is another friend, who looks after his son very well, sends him to America, aka , avana oor sutha vidama., and the son is shown to dump him in an old age home. Chi chi..all these America going sons , I say..
If you want to enjoy with your friends and watch a full-fledged comedy, this is for you . But , don’t go to the theatre, sust was it in DVD.
