Welcoming the new year

07 Jan

How, you may ask? Just a little shake…

A light earthquake occurred at 10:09:35 AM (PST) on Thursday, January 7, 2010.
The magnitude 4.2 event occurred 10 km (6 miles) ENE of Milpitas, CA.
The hypocentral depth is 9 km ( 6 miles).

I work in Milpitas. Mother Earth wanted to wish us all with a little shake of hand. Just 4.2, but you could feel it with all the cubicles shaking. Happy New Year from California.

Cool huh? Last night I was sure there was one and was all set to bundle the little one and charge outside, but decided to wait. Maybe, it was just somebody playing loud music – for the site shows nothing! Heard about this quake after I came from a meeting!

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 10:13 a.m. about six miles east of Milpitas in an area near where the Calaveras and Hayward faults meet. A small 2.2 aftershock followed the initial jolt.

A small quake was also felt in the region late Wednesday night. The USGS reported that quake had a magnitude of 2.8.”

Maybe, just maybe, you felt this small quake last night.A magnitude of 2.8 around 11 PM.. Wow ! Saumya, you are our EQ sensor, girl.

I know. Checked it just now. I was driving and my whole car shook, as I was still at a red light. No kidding. I thought something was wrong with the car and then wondered if it was an earthquake. IT DEFINITELY WAS !The timing is exact… Cool, huh.. A different experience.
