Every second

06 May

The clock read 2:53:01.She woke up, agitated. Her promise to Ajay flashing through the mind. He was angry last night and had given an ultimatum. Very clear. He will not wait even a second more than 3:10. She hurriedly put her pants on , dabbed her lipstick on,grabbed her gift for him, dreaming about all different ways one could patch up. Reaching the bus stop at 3:00, she mounted the bus in a split second and reached their designated secret spot at the beach by 3:09. A smiling Ajay that made her heart crumble with joy and happiness. Yes, it was all worth it. She ran into his arms and showered him with kisses.

The clock read 2:53:02.She woke up, agitated. Her promise to Ajay flashing through the mind. He was angry last night and had given an ultimatum. Very clear. He will not wait even a second more than 3:10. She admired herself in the mirror, while wondering how to prove her love for Ajay. She had always liked it when he complimented her.Deciding not to waste even a second and eager to catch the 3:00 bus, she rushed to the bus stop, hair flaying wildly, not caring what others would think of her. Whew!! Barely got into the bus with the aid of a fellow passenger. Thanks to the kind driver who slowed down the bus just for her. Getting down at her stop, she rushed to their secret spot at the beach, anxiously looking at her watch. There he was, standing with a frown, as though he was about to leave. He shifted his gaze, looked at her and his heart crumbled on seeing his love , out of breath from running, just to reach him by 3:10. He ran to her and showered her with kisses.

The clock read 2:53:03.She woke up, agitated. Her promise to Ajay flashing through the mind. He was angry last night and had given an ultimatum. Very clear. He will not wait even a second more than 3:00. She was always known for being late, but she wanted to prove him wrong. She loved when Ajay complimented her looks and decided to make some time for makeup. Yes, it might take a few minutes but she knew it would make Ajay happy. Anything for him, for she loved him so. When she ran to the bus stop, heart thumping, she could see the tail end of the bus, taking the next turn. Alas ! In panic, she ran to the taxi stand, caught one and requested the driver to rush her to the beach. Her heart almost stopped when she saw Ajay walking away in the opposite direction. With a heavy heart, she realized that yes, indeed she had lost Ajay. She started walking back home.

The clock read 2:53:04.She woke up, agitated. Her promise to Ajay flashing through the mind. He was angry last night and had given an ultimatum. Very clear. He will not wait even a second more than 3:10. She wondered what made her tick with Ajay. She was late, but always well dressed whereas the one thing he cared about was punctuality. She decided to put on her pants, just a little bit of makeup and catch the 3:00 bus. She huffed and puffed up the incline to the bus stop, confident that she had made it, only to be told by a bystander that it had left. Still confident, she decided to catch a taxi , but alas, in her hurry, she had forgotten to pick her handbag. Crying, everything blurry, she ran to the beach. It was a good 15 minutes walk, but her brain, her heart, her mind , everything was blurred. On reaching their secret, favourite spot in the beach, hoping to see Ajay, she was devastated to find his ring instead, the one that she had gifted him. She left the beach with a heavy heart.

The clock read 2:53:05.She woke up, agitated. Her promise to Ajay flashing through the mind. He was angry last night and had given an ultimatum. Very clear. He will not wait even a second more than 3:10. She knew Ajay was fanatic about punctuality but also the one endearing factor that he found in her was her tardiness. She was confident that he would wait for her. It was her Ajay after all. The man who brought sunshine in her life. She decked up in her best saree, a tinge of lipstick and rushed out to catch the 3:00 bus. Alas! The bus had already left and not finding any taxis in the taxi stand, she decided to run to the beach. Anxious, crying with her saree tripping her every now and then, she reached their secret corner by 3:30, only to find Ajay’s ring lying amid the sand. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she sat down, not knowing what to do, her whole world stopped. It was a good 15 minutes before she realized that someone was standing next to her. Yes, it was her Ajay. He had come back to retrieve the ring. They stared at each other, all animosity forgotten, connected by love.
