Another Life is Taken

05 Sep

A guest blog by Arthi Umesh ( my niece)

ANOTHER LIFE IS TAKEN

Another Life is taken,
Little difference does it make,
The newspapers yell it,
The T.V. follows,
After which it is forgotten.

Another Life is taken,
Little difference does it make,
Only adds a little more blood,
To the pool already created
And a little stinking smell
To the already foul-smelling bodies.

Another Life is taken,
Little difference does it make,
To this vast country
But what about that ruined family,
Which went without many things,
Thinking that one day their child
Would fetch them more than they could ask for.

Another Life is taken,
But what about that dream which
Never came true?
What about that baby which,
Never learnt to smile?
What about that lady,
Who burnt herself alive?

Very deep insight from a kid.. (Nephwes and Nieces will always be kids for us)
Don’t know who to point the finget at.. The current world or the media ?

    Apart from writing good poetry,
I cannot believe how someone of such young age has the maturity to write on a heavy subject. At this age kids tend to look at the “Fun” side of life and don’t want to look at the reality. I guess she has a lot of her aunt in her.

Great poem… I think, knowing reality is good. But, trying to reason it out, thats a dangerous territory that I wouldnt venture in. I think reality is what it is and moving on with life also forms a part of understanding the same reality…

    Good one Aarthi!

Mindframes, At this age I agree with you. But everyone has to go through a phase/age where you try to figure out the reason. Though most will realise to accept the reality…there are few who may end-up solving a problem or changing reality. (for good or bad)

@brainwaves: Given the depth in Aarthi’s words in the poem, I dont think we should discount it based on age. As an elderly person..:), I think she should be given inputs on what I think, rather than just saying that the poem is “good” or “great”, which is very much true anyway…My $0.01 worth…
